Shocker Hitch to the rescue!

I bought a 16/5 14K B&B deckover bumper pull trailer last year. I love the trailer, but it beats the crap out of my 3/4 Dodge truck, especially empty. I verified the correct axle placement and tongue weight. Pretty sure it is the heavy trailer axle springs causing this.
This is the first trailer I've towed that is near this bad. I started researching for answers and came across the

http://www.shockerhitch.com/

I haven't towed empty yet, but I hauled my Super C today and I can honestly say this hitch has eliminated 80 to 90 percent of the trailer jerking and banging. I am very excited since I was at the point I was not wanting to use this new trailer unless I had to.

Just wanted to pass this along for anybody in my boat.

That's what I originally said. But I was fearful my truck was going to suffer a cracked frame. If they wear out, the bushings and bag are replaceable. I am a tightwad so spending 400 to replace a functioning hitch was hard for me. I'm glad I took the Gamble and am super pleased. It really is effective at decoupling the rough trailer suspension from the truck. Much more than the DMI hitch I took off.

I?m glad you like it . I?ve never managed to do any frame damage the red trailer has no springs at all and it has a walking beam it rides like a tank

Are the tires on your trailer balanced? It can make a difference on how trailer pulls. I have a 24 FT.bumper pull 102" deckover and it pulls nice empty. At times it feels like you have nothing behind truck.

We went through the same thing, but, we had a Dodge and bumper trailer, sold the Dodge(24 yrs.old) and bought a Ford Super Duty. Same trailer, similar loads, absolutely hated the combo. Nobody here wanted to use the Ford. Was like you, $400 bucks sucked. Finally bit the big one, and now life is good. Until this experience, no one could have understood the circumstance. Absolutely works.

I have been considering the Shocker hitch for a while now. The $400.00 is hard to swallow for the few times a year we haul our trailers but then again the beating the truck and we take might be worth it to get one.

No they are not balanced. Going down a smooth road, the trailer tows fine. It is the terrible roads around some of these parts where it gets the trailer bouncing. Do you think balancing the tires would help over the bumps?

(quoted from post at 05:11:24 08/21/18) Always take a trailer on a test tow before accepting delivery. Do not accept delivery on a trailer that hops and bangs empty because there is something wrong with it.

Barnyard, it appears that DanMD already owns it.

My trailer does very little bouncing on rough roads empty but it weighs 4,200 lbs. empty and truck has truck on rear rides on airbags over spring. But this year I got away from pull it with GMC K 1500 and went to a Ford F 450 Super Duty and it made a big difference in pulling trailer.

My trailer is 4500 lbs empty with 450 tongue weight. I think some of my issue is it doesn't squat my truck much and maybe when we go over bumps my truck could be momentarily engaging the overloads and then spring boarding off of them.

How good are your shocks ? Shocks dampen the bumps. I may not be feeling the bounce of trailer because of the air bags and the spring over
shocks I have on truck.

Shock mounts were not designed to carry a load. Only designed to accommodate the forces of the valving inside the shock.
Not designed for spring-over shocks nor air shocks.
I am surprised they are allowed to be sold.

Didn't say Spring over shock carry load. They help the shock to dampen the effect of bumps. The air bags do carry load but give you a better
ride instead of going with heavier springs. Also when not loaded you can let pressure down on air bags and ride on the stock springs.

The Gabriel shocks they put on back of truck could not pushed by hand . They had to block frame and drop axle to put shocks on truck.

Well that can't be right as
you stated earlier they are not carrying [u:558e858f42]any[/u:558e858f42] load.

They don't really carry weight when a k1500 has 3/4 ton springs and with 5,000lb. Air lift air bags to carry the weight. Those shocks can't be pushed in by hand and have to jack frame up or drop rear end about 10 inches to get them in. The truck with 25 lbs of air in air bags keeps trailer level With load in picture about 12,000 LBS..
