Mack cooling system hose alert

Three weeks ago I posted about a fitting and hose problem on a 2013 Mack. Today I got a call from the truck owner asking me to go out and rescue one of the other drivers on the side of the road with the same truck. This time it was a connector hose in the lines to the transmission cooler. The original hose was silicone as was the replacement. The truck has only 125,000 miles, but these hoses carry a lot of volume of very hot coolant.

You do have to be careful not to over tighten the clamps on those. The hose is really soft and will cut from the squeezing force of the clamp as it is tightened thus causing a failure.
I did that on one one time, how I know. Otherwise it should handle any temperature the engine is running.
This is on the silicone hose.

Silicone hose is fantastic for many things, but proper clamping is critical. Worm style clamps must be lined or it will extrude through the hose clamp. And like caterpillar guy said, don’t over tighten.

There was no damage at the clamps or leaking from the ends of the hose. Only a three inch long tear.
