Drop n lock gooseneck hitch

Looking at a drop n lock gooseneck hitch for my 2002 Ford superduty. Anyone running one? They look simple and are reasonably price for a few weekend livestock hauls. Thanks for your opinions!

I have seen them before. I think they would be better than the ones that use a cross lock pin. A good friend has a Ford with the lever/lock pin type of latch and we got the pins to move but can not get the ball out of the socket. We are going to have to take the bed off to remove the entire bracket. I hope we can then press the ball out of the socket.

I use a drop n lock in a 99 Chevy. It's done everything I've asked of it. Sounds like we have about the same usage. The only problem I've had is once I hadn't used it for awhile and the ball got slightly rusted in. A big screwdriver got it loose. I now coat it with cheapie silicone spray once in a while. One complaint I suppose would be when you grease the ball for a trailer that grease collects road dust and dirt when the ball is in the down position. You have to take a rag and clean it all up and grease it up again. I don't pull trailers all that often so it's no big deal for me. Just something to be aware of.

+2 on the B&W, have them in both of my F-350's, as for the ball stuck, that's just poor up-keep, however, for what it's worth to the guy with the stuck ball, there is a hole you can put a rod or punch up through and tap on the ball to loosen it. learned that a couple of years ago when my neighbor hauled dirt in his bed and filled the hole full.

Have one in my current truck. Had one in the last one too. The thing I like most about the drop and lock is if you need to flip it in the winter and its frozen in, a little heat from a propane torch and it will melt loose. Had one with a side pull pin 3 trucks ago, and it was a miserable SOB in the winter.

I've thoroughly abused both of them and never had any problems.

B&W is the only hitch I recommend to people, we have a few in different pickups and I even have one welded into the 5th wheel on our Peterbilt so I can pull our gooseneck with an inverted 5th wheel or ball in a pinch.

welding man: He just bought the truck. A Coop owned the truck. They never used the gooseneck ball. It never has been removed since new. It is a 2008 truck. The truck is rust free as they did not use it in the winter but that darn ball is sure stuck.

JoeM(GA) I got the latch pin to pull out but the ball is stuck tight. I had my long stroke air hammer in that bottom hole and it would not budge it. The trouble is the ball has never been flipped since it was new. A Coop bought it with the ball already installed. Clean truck with zero rust but that darn ball will not move.

two ideas, just shooting from the hip, go ahead and hook up a trailer and drive a bit to loosen things up,
and or pull the pin to unlock and use the trailer jack to lift the truck just a bit and rap the hitch with a dead blow hammer, might even have to jump up and down in the bed a few times!

I have had a B&W in my '06 since new. Just takes maintenance, Although I recommend grease as it will last a year.
