Need some advice on strapping down and trailering my 8n,
What types of strap or chain and binders to use, any advice would be greatly appreciated

Last time I moved one I used 1 strap per corner (I have looks that go around the able and then have tons to hook the strap to). Front pulled forward and back pulled backwards. After going a few miles I gave them each another click as the straps do stretch. Make the tires squat a little bit and you will be good to go.

Usual rule of thumb is, if it is on wheels and can roll use chains and binders, boxes, crates or implements not on wheels use straps, this will keep the DOT officers happy

Totally wrong. Do you give up now or should I post pages from the DOT website for you like I did for Stonerock a couple months ago?

Mcandl2: This forum is a very bad place to ask for information on securing loads, as you will get a lot of anecdotal stories. You can use either chains or straps, but be sure to protect straps from chafing and wear if you elect to use straps.

showcrop you are TOTALLY CORRECT FOR 2017, been driving sence 1973 did not grandfather in for CDL took my
test in 1985 for CDL at that time it said to chain a rolling load I remember taking the test, but it doesnt
matter now because rules have changed for 2017

I have a question. Does this vary from state to state or is that the fed regulation?

I hear different things here in MO about using chains/binders vs straps.

Thanks in advance.

RB, you can go to your local registry and get the free book that they had printed especially for you. It will tell you everything that you want to know, and it will be local information.

Thanks for the info. I typically use grade 100 chains/hooks with ratchet binders that exceed the weight of my tractor each. Was asking for a friend that likes to use straps.

Thanks for the info.
