I am thinking of buying a drop deck trailer made by this company. It is a 40 ft heavy equipment trailer with two axles and was used to haul tanks in the military. It was made in 1964. I am wondering if I can pull the trailer at speeds up to 60 MPH, because it was manufactured back when cars and trucks were slower.

I can get wheels and brings fort the trailerI'm pretty sure. I am going to use to move my farm equipment and dozer locally, so I won't be going more that 150 miles from my farm.

If it has good tires, wheel bearings and brakes I can't see why you couldn't pull 60 MPH and empty maybe faster yet. I would go over trailer and look for any stress cracks or welds that could be cracked.

What D Beatty said PLUS what brakes are on it? ?? Being that age: lots of trailers had vacuum brakes, not air pressure systems as today. Many of the early air brakes were "wedge type " rather than "S cam ". Wedge not as efficient. Just be sure trailer is compatible with what you use to pull it with.

Also check carefully for brake parts availability as some from that old age are no longer available. Also check the frame for rust as most didn't survive because of that.

As the others have said, make sure it has S cam brakes. Just looking at that trailer and knowing what a tank weighs, I don't think it was used to haul tanks or at least not fighting vehicle tanks. Make sure it will handle the weight of you equipment.
It appears to be either an old Air Force or Navy trailer. Very possible it has 24V lights but of course that could be changed.

I have an 1954 24 ton transport low boy trailer. Had vacumn brakes and was changed over to air. I wouldn't be afraid to pull it anywhere. The wheel seals were also changed from grease to oil. Had some big dozers on it and never had a problem. Trailer looks like it is in good shape. The wheels bearings and brake drums are still available for trailer of that vintage. John
