Dump Trailer Hydraulic Pressure

Have a Sure Trac 7K dump 10'X 6' with one cylinder. 5K load of gravel, had to shovel off maybe half to get bed to raise. Checked pressure today, 1,800 psi. Found the Companies manual online, says to take to dealer. Anyone know what the pressure should be?

To save weight, the hoist might be sized for an evenly distributed load. If all the weight is ahead of the bed pivots, or near the front of the bed, it will be harder to tilt.

There should be an adjustable relief screw on it somewhere so you can up it some. I've had to do that on most of the dumps I've worked on. Post a pic of your pump and I might be able to point it out. Should be able to go to 2,000 psi or so.

Thanks for your ideas. What I would like to know is the pressure. Wonder how much effort is put into these dump trailers before they go out the door?

Most they just cycle them without testing the pressure. Most 12v pumps are rated at 2,000 or 2500 psi. You won't hurt anything by turning it up, if you go too far the motor will just stop. If you tell me which pump you have or post a pic of it I can tell you where the relief is.

I know how to adjust pressure relief. Many pump units are rated 3k or more. The cylinder on this trailer is rated for 3k, but that does not mean that on this trailer the system was designed to operate at that pressure. Would feel better to know what the designed pressure is.

I asked twice for you to say what pump you have or post a pic of it, that will tell what it is capable of. If you know the cylinder is good for 3k psi all that is left is the pump and hoses.

My only question is what PRESSURE the trailer was designed for. Specs for the pump unit are online. Was hoping for someone that works for a dealer or even the factory to have the correct answer. Thanks for your input.

Called sure trac and they were less than helpful, called 2 dealers in Mn. and one said up to 3200psi and the other said 2500 to 3200 psi.

The rated payload for your trailer is only 4200 lbs and that type lift won't likely tip more than rated capacity if the load is evenly loaded. They will strughle to dump a rated load centered forward of center.

Yeah, I contacted the factory yesterday, no help at all, like the manual says, take to dealer. Did find on one spec sheet 2500 psi. Turned up the relief to that, hauled two loads today and seems to work ok. Think you have enjoyed researching this. Thanks

That rated payload you stated is incorrect. Trailer weights a little more than 1800 and that leaves around 5200 payload. I've seen the same number and read more and you will see the higher number. Just more mistakes and poor proofreading.

This is the company chart, have you weighed your trailer? 1800 lbs seems light. Both dealers said you were overloaded at 5k as well.

Lol, that's interesting because those numbers match the 5x10 home owners model trailer. So either you have a 5x10 trailer or someone put the wrong sticker on yours, or their literature is wrong. Would be interesting to see which it is. Not the first time I've seen something like this.

A gear pump like typically used on those hydraulic power units are going to be limited to around 3000 PSI. More than that and you need a piston pump.

We would have the same problem with a different make but same size trailer. Took two 18 inch long pieces of 4''X 4'' and sawed one end on each at an approximately 30 degree angle, put one under each tire on the front axle of the trailer and pull the front axle up on the block before dumping, solved the problem.
