Trailer Weight

I am looking at a used 40 ft Haulmark enclosed trailer, it is a 3 axle trailer rated at 15,000 GVW. I am trying to determine the empty weight but the seller does not have a clue. Does anyone have an idea of the empty weight?

Thanks
Rich

I have a 40' enclosed with 3 axles and 20 ft living area in front it weighs12500 empty. so I would guess you would be around 7-9k

I found a certified scale near me and weighted the truck then came back with trailer and weighed the whole rig and subtracted truck weight from gross weight of both.

If he has tags on it the weight will be on the registration for the tag. And as big as it is it will have to have a title to be sold and taged and that weight will be on the title. A trailer under 2000 or 2500 has to just have a certifick of origin but you need that to get the tags.

With a trailer that size, it could put you in commercial weight ratings. I would have to ask myself if I really needed a trailer that big. Just saying.

No such thing as a commercial weight rating.

It is possible that RCP doesn't know but the rest of us know that Jack was referring to the "old" term for CDL requirement.

15,000 GVW sounds low for a 3 axle trailer. Most commercial 3 axle traIlers use 7,000 lb axles. What does this one have, three 5K axles? What size and load-range tires are on it?

Something else to consider: with the lighter axles, it may also be lighter built (like intended for use as a race car trailer) . How much weight do you expect to haul and is the ramp door strong enough to support it. Sort of gets expensive real fast if numerous modifications are required before it will haul what you're intending to put in it. (Just a thought)

I would bet that trailer would weight more than you think. I would think it would easily weight in the 7-8K range. Those enclosed trailers are not as light as you would think the sides and roof are not light.

We have a newer 16' enclosed trailer and the only thing with much weight to it IS the trailer. The walls and roof are flimsy and very lightweight. For the 16', I would say that not including the ramp door, that the rest of the enclosure wouldn't weigh in at more than 350-400 lbs.
