transporting tractor with loader

This may have been posted before but just as a point of interest. Many years ago I moved a tractor backhoe all over the local countryside by tipping the loader bucket over the tailgate of a dump truck and pulled it a lot of miles that way at about 25-30 mph.

It might be frowned on today but would be an interesting conversation with a cop when you get stopped!!!!

Most of us with much age have done things "back in the day " we would not try now. Either getting "older and wiser ", or, "old and paranoid ".

My neighbor used to do that only he put the bucket on a trailer too small to haul the whole tractor. His loader settled fairly fast so every mile he would have to get out and lift the front wheels up again. Come to think of it I pulled my 630 with loader down the road that way once with a flat bed pickup. I rigged a chain from the loader cross brace down to the front axle of the tractor in case the front end settled down. The destination was only five miles away.

My neighbour used to tow his set-up the way around, he added a trailer ball to his backhoe and towed his pickup to the job.

Older, wiser and Johnny law probably wouldn't think it was funny today. and for fixerupper, they would track with the front wheels on the ground but occasionally when making tight turn would go all the way to the stop and stay there until you went back and straightened it out.

And if you encountered another car they weren't on their cell phone or texting and therefore were better prepared to deal with your situation :)
