The Chevy 350 small block engine is a continuation of the original 265 cubic inch V8 that Chevrolet introduced in 1955. Any of those small block configurations, 265, 283, 305, 307, 327, and 350 will fit any vehicle that came from the factory equipped with a small block V8.

You didn't say if your going to use 2500 for just driving around or hauling or pulling a trailer. If your going to haul or pull any trailer with weight I would try to find a 427 Chevy truck engine. The 350 Vortec is a good engine but the 427 would have more guts with a loaded trailer.

Will probably fit.
Last time I did anything with a chevy the engine would fit but the junk that had to be changed was un real to make it work after it was in. Chevy does not have much for interchange of things. That was a 305 to a 350 not sure of the engine ages was 25 years ago.

Any Vortec 305 or 350 will directly swap. The computer will also be enough to run the truck. The flex plates are different for a 4L60E(1/2 ton) and a 4L80E(3/4 and 1 ton), so make sure you switch that over. The oil pressure sender may also be different(back by the distributor), but it's as easy as taking the one from your old 350 and putting it in the replacement 350. All the sensors, and even the injectors are the same. I've taken a 1997 305, and put it in place of a 2000 350, without changing anything in the computer, and it works great. With the transmission in gear, it will sometimes idle a bit rough(like at a stop light). The problem is the 305 and 4L80E never came together, so I'd have to get a custom tune for it, but it runs great anyways, so I've never bothered with it.

I haven't worked on new gm vehicles but the pre 2000 one would all interchange from a 2.4 liter 4 banger to a 7.4 liter 454 . That may all be different now.
