Winch cover

A while back there was talk on here about how to cover a winch to protect it from weather. Well I just put a new 12,000 lb. winch on my trailer and made a cover for it. I had an old large mail box setting around so I cut the bottom out of it and cut slots for wires and mounting plate . I screwed and sealed door of mail box shut and put handle on top to lift it off if needed. I put 2 tarp tie down straps over the top so it won't fly or bounce off trailer. I used a 5 gallon, plastic gas can. The can had some issues which made it un-useable, so I cut the bottom off, placed it over the winch, and secured it with tarp straps.

I commend you on your ingenuity! I was always going to bend a piece of sheet metal into a box to cover my winch, but after several years I never got around to it, so for less than $20 I bought a genuine winch cover 8)
