Anybody ever use a cv joint boot repair kit ? I tore one on the ol girl and it's still tight but it won't be if I keep running it

We used to rebuild them, but not anymore. It looks like a split boot, and if so I wouldn't use it. They don't seal well and will allow the joint to take in dirt and moisture. GM like quite a few manufacturers went to the neoprene blue boot. They may still be available from Moog as a "Superboot". They also had a special pair of pliers for the sealing ring that required serious torque to properly seal the boot. The pliers had a 1/2 inch drive opening for a torque wrench to honk down on the pliers. Reman. 1/2 shafts aren't nearly as expensive as they used to be.

Well the kit they sent is nowhere near big enough so we went ahead with an external_link rig . what rotten couple days drove 150 miles round trip just to get the wrong parts from agco and the wrong part for my Chevy O well I like going to so I guess I get to go back

Next time you might want to tell them you have the "over 8600 GVWR" option with eight-bolt hubs.

Ya the kid I got it from wasn't very smart not that there are very many parts men in those Places that know anything

If it has a way to glue the seam shut, it'll certainly be better than nothing, and just might be okay.

Many experiences with these are based out of the 1980's and 1990's. Adhesives technology has come a long way.

If it was mine I would just replace the shaft, because there is a hole in the boot which means dust and dirt are already in the grease so it is going to wear out in short order any who, and it really is not all that much for a replacement shaft.
