Trailer tire upgrade

Picked up a new 18'Texas BraggClassic Car Carrier several years ago. It did not take the Taskmaster load range D 225 75 r15"s to go south. Only got 4500 miles out of them @60psi. I changed them out for a set of Maxxis 225 75 r15 load range E Hoping to see better results.

That is not very many miles out of a set of tires and being only several years old. I have a PJ 24 ft. deck over that's going on 4 years old with about the same mileage and still look good no weathering yet. They are 16" tires called Provider load range E and carry 80psi. Hope you have better luck with different tires. Tires are to expensive to be buying them every several years and with really no miles on them.

The word is that most trailer manufacturers go cheap on tires to stay competitive. Guess I could have asked for the tire upgrade at time of purchase.

When you get a new trailer you hope that the tires they put on it haven't been setting around or came out of a warehouse where they have been setting for a number of years.

Did they fail from cracking of tread wear? If the tread wore out you should really check out your alignment. Did you take any pics of the tires? That would help diagnose the problem. I don't see any way that milage that low could scrub off tires without some type of problem with the trailer. I've fixed several commercial made trailers where the axles were installed wrong, built a couple myself too. I always took mine for a test drive to check everything out before giving them to the customer.

When tires are 5 years old they are do for replacement. My camper will get tires every 5 years. The flat bed rarely get more than ten miles from home with a heavy load, and has twenty year old tires on it. When camper tires blow you replace the side of the camper, when the tires go on the flat bed you replace a fender.

My experience also trailer tires are time bombs!. 5 yrs watch out. I have moved up to 14 ply. I think load range F.

I just lost two Towmaster 16" trailer tires that both separated....They were only 4 years old and each had 50-60 % tread left...Always kept indoors and properly inflated...Most trailer tires today are pure junk...

I replaced them with two Gladiator 235 85R 16's 14 ply load range G at $179 each...I'll probably be lucky to get 4 years out of them...

Just had two Carlisle tractor tubes that were less than 2 years old split open sitting in a shed.....On antique tractors that hadn't been used since they were installed..

Chuck. I sold both brands for years. I think you will be happer with the maxis. We got better service from them.
