Powder Coating

Just ordered a 20+5 dual tandem Big Tex in Red and found out the trailer will be painted vs. powder coated. Dealer called me to confirm and I said go ahead. Any thoughts?

My PJ is powder coated, 2007 model. A lot of places are starting to peel. I have had some pieces done by a place that did a lot of the roof pieces for Lucas Oil stadium. They told me that lack of good preperation is the main problem with powder coating. I think I would have been better with paint on the PJ, would be much easier to sand blast and redue in future.

Powder Coating is nice and very hard. Resists scratching from chains and etc. However, Powder Coating starts to peel and then it will start to rust under it where it peels. Especially if it is used in salt in the winter.

Painted trailers are usually somewhat baked on paint, and they will work just fine, if not better. I would not worry at all. Bob

Paint is more desirable than powder coat. The trailer manufacturers use the plastic just to get out from under the expense of dealing with Federal clean air laws that apply to use of paint.

From what Ive heard the powder coating doesn't hold up well with trailer flex. That's why it will flake off.

Mine has held up well in the middle. It is at the ends and chain attach points where it has gotten compromised. Any place where it gets scratched.

power coating works wounderful as posted, but also can be bad on other stuff, good thing about paint, is you can sand off rusty area and apply as much paint to keep it from rusting again and look good
