bumper pull or gooseneck?

Gonna be looking for a trailer to haul our oliver around in the summer to pulls. Looking at hauling 6500 to 7000 lb max. Was considering a skid loader type trailer or low profile gooseneck. Probably won't haul any thing else with it just the puller and an occasional trip to Lowes for lumber etc.

I have both. I like to use the gooseneck when hauling the heavier loads. The truck and trailer does not sway. The gooseneck adds weight to the steering axle. The entire truck may "sit down" not just the rear. I like the ride and control the gooseneck provides over the bumper pull. Just my $0.02.

You can get the same results with a bumper pull trailer by using a weight distribution system. This system transfers weight to front axle of truck and also help control sway.

I looked at both bumper pull and gooseneck when looking for trailer. The gooseneck trailer weighs 500lb. heavier than the same trailer in a bumper pull. I bought the bumper pull low profile because I can haul 500lbs. more than gooseneck and I have more friends with bumper pull hitches that could help me in a pinch. I am like you I take my tractors to shows and pulls and have helped several move with it. I went with the deck over because some of my tractors are to wide for equipment or car trailers.

How does it handle with that kind of load at hwy speeds? I've used a 30 ft dual tandem gooseneck before years ago and that thing was a load empty but it would ride smooth as glass down the road. I'm not gonna buy one of those because I won't need something that big obviously but I don't want something that is gonna be all over the road either.

That trailer as it sets empty is 4,200 LBS.. When trailer is empty you don't even know its behind you. The 450 weighs between 7,000-8,000 lbs. depending if going to show or pull. When I pull this trailer loaded with 450 I won't pull it 55-60 mph and if hauling AC WD45 which is half the weight of the 450 I will run 65. I have had this trailer about 4 years and no sway problems tows straight as a string. The trailer in picture 14,000 lb. 24 foot, 102" wide.

I bought a 20' bumper pull about 4 months ago because I have a flatbed pickup and got tired of the trailer always being on the bed with my goosenecks.

Recently bought a 20ft. 14k bumper pull. Hauling about 5k in tractor and weights . Pulling it with either an f250 or dually. No handling problems. Biggest issue, in my opinion, is to be sure the truck is heavy enough to handle it. Don't want the tail wagging the dog.

18ft texas bragg classic car hauler. trailer 2300lbs 10000 lbs total wght. 2011 Silverado w/towing package. Good Ride!

Went to Tunica past week. 500 trailers. Just two bumper trailers parked on our side of the building. Just a side bar. Filled trucks with fuel at Sikeston Mo. One a 6.7 diesel Ford. The other a 6.2 gas Ford. Both F250 with 3.73 gears. Both took $35 150 miles South. At Tunic a Mississippi. But the Diesel had 5000 lbs. More on it. Went 73 mph by GPS. Take a long time to get back your $8000 for a Diesel.

A friend of mine has a 6.7 2012 F350 and I have gone with a few times hauling his tractor to pulls and I must say that is the most impressive truck I've ever been in hooked to a trailer. We had no issues running 75 mph set the cruise and sit back and enjoy the ride! I'd love to have one but don't think my check book agrees!

I have a 23' bumper pull with 5' fold over ramp rice trailer, it tracks so well, I cannot even tell it is back there.

For that much weight I would suggest a bumper pull. They will haul that fine and if you load propperly will pull good too. The gooseneck will cost more, plus you add a truck hitch cost, and they are heavier every mile you pull them. And as said with the bumper pull you have a lot of flexibility as far as tow vehicles. Sadly that also means that it's easier for folks to ask to borrow it. Lol

I have to load it correctly as the weight on the truck bed can be 3-4 tons and the 2 tractors on the trailer weigh about 4-5 tons , but loaded correctly it rides and drives well 6" off and you will stop and fix it . I know a gooseneck would handle the weight better but it would have to be 40' long to have the room for everything to sit on it.

Gooseneck all the way, pull one and you'll never go back. They are way nicer than a bumper pull. Gooseneck will cost you more but you won't be sad.

Which ever you choose, get a tilt bed. Much easier to load and unload, no handling ramps. and at my age thats a good thing
