In need of a trailer...

Any good way of getting a trailer for transporting my '37 JD A for a labor day weekend tractor show without breaking the bank?

I just spent a bunch of money on getting the tractor going. I would like to use it in an upcoming Thresheree, but don't want to throw a bunch of money out the window in a rental...

Thanks[/url]

Well, you could look for a used trailer on craigslist. I'm betting you know about that. So, my suggestion is that you contact a friend, or contact the threshers club to find out if they have any contacts with people within the club that would haul. There is probably somebody within the club willing to haul your tractor for a reasonable fee if you would just ask! 2 weeks may be a little short for notice, though, since it seems that you have just started looking. Where are you? Some of the members here are willing to haul at reasonable prices. Maybe you should post in the hauling wanted area... -Andy

1/2 ton, from southeast Minneapolis area to 20 miles south of Madison. I can rent one with chains, binders, and hitch for a week, but will be $320...

That's what, 250 miles? You'd be lucky to find someone to haul it for you at $1.50 per mile. If you don't have a close friend that will loan you a trailer, you won't get it done any cheaper than renting the trailer and hauling it yourself. Rent the trailer, or bone up $1500+ for a trailer. If you buy a trailer, then you still spend another $250 on chains and binders. Or, if you trust the old A, leave now, you'll probably be there by then... LOL! -Andy

I was going to write that. It does need to run....it's been sitting awhile. I don't want to be on the news though...

I've seen several well used trailers with asking prices equal to the price of a brand new trailer, so before you start looking at used trailers, do your homework.

Local hardware store rental center rents their two 12,500# capacity Corn Pro 18 ft beavertail bumper pull
trailers at $50/day. They both have electric brakes on both axles, sealed beam lights, not LED but almost
as good. No chains or binders, have to supply your own. When I rent one I get it late in the day and make
darn sure I get it back by closing time the next day. Your $320/week sounds like a decent deal.

You'll like the Edgerton, WI show. Been a few years since I was last there. The show is 3-4 times the size
it was 20+ years ago when I went the first time.

Ok, thanks, I'll check it out.

Yeah, I grew in the subdivision just east of that park. Ever since I was little I always got real excited this time if year. During the show, the train whistle, the huge hit n miss thumping exhaust, and the pile driver ram echoed throughout my neighborhood.

Id agree on the renting one for now. Unless you plan on hauling your tractor to other shows or have other uses for the trailer it's just going to sit in your yard taking up space, then best of all if your friends know you own one they will be after you to let them borrow it!

Believe me I own one, it takes up space and on the avarage I get asked once a week if it can be borrowed. I let it go a couple times but to only the friends I know will be cautious while using it.
