Hey Cummins guys

Just a heads up for you guys running Cummins with the common rail injection. I found out the hard way the other day that the #4 injector line clamp has a tendency to come loose and the line will fail at the most inopportune time. I was out in the boonies when mine let go, fuel all over the place. Fortunately I had cell service, so was able to research what was wrong and get hold of a mobile mechanic to bring out a new and improved part. $71 for the new line/holder, unfortunately $290 to deliver it to me. Now I get to smell raw diesel fuel for a month or two....

Mine (2006) has common rail and there are no lines
to individual injectors. The rail is in the head.

The only external connection is a wire to the
electronic module.

Cummins brought common rail to the 5.9 in 2003. In 2007.5 the displacement went to 6.7 to present day. They have hi pressure pump which feeds a common rail, then goes to 6 hi pressure lines that feed a tubes that goes into the cylinder head. Which feeds 6 injectors. The fuel is always @ the injectors, the ecm turns on/off the solenoid at the injector. ISX is Cummins class 8 engine is the same way. Detroit Diesel 13, 15, 16 engine are the same way. The Duramax came out in 2001 is the same way.

First picture is # 1 fuel line coming from the rail, then goes to transfer tube that's behind the big nut. Then it fees the injector.

Eldon, I recommend buying this testing fuel cap from Cummins. Next time line breaks, remove the line & install it. Then you will have a 5 cylinder, but you will able to drive the truck back home. Buddy broke a line, I couldn't get line for him via work for couple weeks. They were on back order. So he drove around for 2 weeks with this cap.

Pics of new one. Notice there is no clamp or screw....hopefully these won't wear.

You can barely see the rubber grommet in the bracket
