Hey guys:

Ive got an 04 2500 duramax. I need to spend 6-8 thousand dollars on it to get it fixed up and its got 205,000 miles on it. Weighing my options as whether to keep it or get a newer one. How many miles have you all seen on a duramax? How long will they run?

Mine is to the point to fix or trade off. Most dealers are offering 8-10 thousand on trade. It needs leather seats and headliner stitched back up, paint on a couple of doors, and injectors. If I fix this stuff, whats going to break next? Ive put 100,000 miles on this truck with no major problems. Brakes, alternator, water pump, batteries, tires, and u-joints. Mainly normal wear items.

I had one with 300,000+ (til a girl I was seeing flipped it)2002 or 3 cant remember. truck ran great. the only issues I had was an exhaust leak and a broken shock mount. I put almost 100,000 on it. really liked the truck and seemed to be very reliable but there are a lot of exceptions. my truck had been babied and just a lot of miles from an older construction superintendent driving to do "visits" and jobs across the Midwest and never a chip or any upgrades. in my opinion the biggest factor to your decision is the history of the truck. eg. programmers, heavy loads, hotrodding, teen driver. if its had an easy life and you really like the truck then the decision is just down to $$

Gosh, I haven't spent $8000-$10,000 on maintenance/repairs on my PSD in over 19 years & 300,000 miles.

My advice, trade your Duramax in on the newest RAM CTD you can afford. The newer the better.
