Needing another pickup, not a complete beater, found a 96 1500, auto,4x4,5.9. Any problem areas to look out for? Thanks
 
The brake lines rot out on these truck behind the gas tank. And then there's the typical rot at the bottom rear of the front fenders and the bottom of the doors.
 
Look in the intake on the bottom and see if you see oil. If so it needs a phlenum gasket and the intake needs to come off. Drive it cold and see if the transmission upshifts normally at part throttle. If not seals are hard and tranny will need to be resealed.
 
Check the trans operation. Trans should be serviced,not flushed as the bands need to be adjusted.Fluid level is checked in NEUTRAL at an idle, Check the front end for looseness,they tend to wobble when hitting a bump,a new track bar usually cures this

Checked in nuetral AFTER all running slowly thru all the gears 8)
