dodge 5 speed death wobble

Hello, I was wondering if anyone would have a 2wd five speed dodge cummins that could take a picture of the tranny cross member for me. I think it was installed backwards effecting the drive line angle causing a violent vibration at 40mph and up. Thanks for any and all help

I have a 97 Ram 2500 Cummins 5 speed. I put the transmission in myself, and then pulled it 1 year later to put a good clutch in. The cross member cannot be installed backwards. Simply not possible from what I can see. The trans support holes wouldn't line up. And even if they did, I don't see how it could cause a "wobble". From what I understand, the "death wobble" is when your front end is all worn out and the front wheels literally wobble going down the road.

The vibration you describe sounds to me like your carrier support bearing is going out. Some people have to replace those often.

by chance did they change any U-joints? sounds like one might not have gotten changed properly ( not free in the yoke) could be a carrier bearing as well.

Death wobble has nothing to do with drive line. Death wobble is steering problem. Need to check front end for parts wore out. Big differance between death wobble and drive line vibration.

Make sure your u-joints are lined up. The splines should only allow it to go together 180 degrees apart.

Make sure you didn't knock any weights off it.

Make sure the trans is tight to the engine.

Is the transmission used or reman? Same one? Why did you have it out? does it start at 40 MPH regardless of which gear you're in?

NOT sure what yr dodge you have
BUT if its a AAM axle/rear in it
THE ONLY correct U joint is a AAM U joint, any other is an incoreect size , YES folks use them and MAKE em work
BUT they are incorrect U joints and can cause excessive wear on center carrier bearing, and diff/transfer case seals, as well as speed-ed up U joint wear and possible failure
Death wobble is a issue that has plagued many dodge trucks
some solve it by replacing the steering shaft (upgrade Borgeson made one) with a up graded after market one, and other go to whole new up graded front ends, ball joints and , many after market companys actually sell, up grade death wobble kits to get rid of it
