need replacement E range tires

I am in need of a new set of tires for my Dodge 3500 pickup. I do a fair amount of trailering and driving on all kinds of surfaces. I have had three sets of Firestone Transforce AT's and every set of them has gone out of round before they are worn out. What other brands are folks having good luck with? I need all terrain tread due to the highway miles I put on but still need traction. Mike

I highly recommend both General Grabber AT2 and Cooper Discoverer ATP. They both have great traction, good treadwear and good prices.

Mike, on the advice of my tire guy, (and having similar problems with Transforces), I just installed 6 NEXENs on my '04 Dodge 3500. He says he has put 10-12 sets on duallys and the owners are reporting better tire mileage and a smoother ride than when using the Cooper and Transforce 'E's. I only have a few hundred miles on mine, but running light, with 80psi in them, I was surprised that my wife even noticed the better ride. The set of 6, balanced, new stems, installed, tax, was well south of $1k out the door. Time will tell. YMMV!

I have a 14 ram 3500 dually the stock Nexen AT went 46,000 on the dually and the fronts went 57,000. I rotated the at 25,000 all highway I put Firestone tranforce ht on back and with 20,000 they have 3/32 before I will have to replace them they r out of DOT spec. I run 80 psi but have lowered them to 74 psi. I pull a 53 ft wedge trailer with cargo trailers or I pull stacks of utility
trailer

I have a 2006 F250 4x4 CC Diesel.I have used nothing but these tires.BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/A.I got 92,000 miles out of the first set.I'm at 53,000 on the second set.

The Michelin LTX is a good tire. Friend at tire shop has seen them run 70k. Too bad they don't make a LT version of the XDN2 . . .I run those on the Pete, last set had 390,000 when they got down to min spec. I know they are high, but they are just a darn good tire.

You can get an xdn2 as a cap from bandag for 16" tires. I ran a set of those caps on 24.5" farther than the michellin tread lasted.....speaks volumes about a michellin casing, 700,000+ on the same casing. a goodforayear would never do that.

B F Goodrich Long Trails for me. 96,000 on the first set, a little less on the next because of alignment issues.

I own a 2500 dodge long bed quad cab(I have owned 6 of these trucks and about 30 sets of tires of all brands)

my last 5 sets of tires have been like this, first set was
Michelin LTX (265/70/17 load E's)
got 46,000 mile on them, and were about 50% tread left,, BUT was heading out west in winter time and replaced them due to I knew I was going to be in the back country and a lot of snow and ice and mud even?
Overall, a decent tire, NOT great anywhere but maybe in tread life
they picked up gravel like magnets and threw it all over at high way speeds, cars behind me hated me(kept the tailgaters away LOL)
and lots of stone chips from the stones hitting me?? BUT its a truck, so??

next set was a BF Rugged trail same size load E's
got 28k and they were about worn, maybe had 25% tread left, and they sucked in any wet soil and were not so great in snow
couldn't wait for them to go!

next set was a Firestone destination AT, in a load E, changed size, went to a 285/70/17 load E
DUE to a friends son worked at a shop and could get me these tires for a HUGE discount(almost half price!)
First set I got exactly 23,000 miles, worked OK all over just wore out super FAST
Firestone said, I mist have gotten a back set?
so due to the price again, I got a second set of same tires
got 28k out of these, and was offered a even better price to buy again
NOW again they worked good all over, NOT great, but worked good
SO went with a third set
12 K into these I had a piece of metal take out a side wall while driving off off road
SO< Bought a new tire>
exactly 3 weeks later at a different site, I had another tire go out from a side wall puncture , of a 6 inch nail??
SO< ended up buying another whole tire
NOW have about 38 k on the originals and there at about 40% tread if that, and have the two newer one;'s at about 75%
WILL NOT be buying them again

ON my other Dodges , I ran Cppoer Dicovery AT's and averaged about 40K on a set, and will be going back to them
I drive a ton of roads of all types all yr, from dirt to gravel to hi way, and typically run high ways at 75 mpg
I can rotate tires every 3-5 k, and or NOT, and in the last say 500,000 miles I drove in dodges, I get NO difference in tire wear , by NOT rotating tires
I have front end alignments checked every 5k(get the life time deal on that )
I check air pressure very Often
I run with loads towing trailer and empty
many times running out west, its 30-36+ hrs NON stop driving, minus fuel stops
ONLY tire I ever got more than 50 K out of was a Michelin .
BUT they always seem to cost a bunch more per tire, and , due to getting snow often and mud, I personally feel I'd rather replace tires more often and have good tread come snow season, than try to squeeze more miles out of a tire
one ride into a ditch kills any savings on more miles out of a tire in my book!

For most of my 30+ yrs of driving 3/4-1 ton trucks, I been replacing tires once a yr!(drove 50-60k a yr) some times twice a yr
and tried all the tires out there, Coopers have been my best average tire for good grip all over and wear

My 2 cents here ON tires on a dodge!
