F-700 with 5.9 cummins,6spd for farmtruck

Can pick up a 5.9,6spd powered F-700 with juice brake truck from a furniture company with a damaged box body CHEEP. Shortened up would this be a good under 26k puller for a gooseneck trailer and short flatbed body? We are in the flat part of florida and only ocasionaly use it. Any problems from other users? THANKS!!!!!!

Just my opinion, might be wrong again.
An F-700 most likely rated over the 26001# class, making it require a class B license to drive it by itself. Going to be a heavy rig empty. Not even going to mention how heavy trailer can pull with class B, before needing to go to class A.
Also think the 5.9 will be a bit weak. For that heavy base truck, I would prefer model L (10- liter), or M (11- liter).
Somebody else jump in here, won't hurt my feelings at all.

Check the door tag for GVWR. It depends on how it is geared on the engine power. Lower gearing will reduce top speed but yield more pull power. higher gearing will yield more top speed; but; may take a while to get there. Not uncommon to see that engine in a 700 series; so; it must work out okay to some degree or they would not have produced it. Also; the 5.9 has been around long enough a good engine man can get more power out of it. Most Cummins engines had a variety of HP ratings using the same basic engine. (for instance: the "N" series, 855ci ranged from 230hp to 475)

I have a L7000 with the 5.9 and 6 speed. It was an old delivery truck also. It had a long flat bed on it I made a dovetail and some ramps can carry 2 tractors on it. Going through the mountains it can get slow on the flat ground once it is wound out it does fine. It is rated at 26,000 at 26001 is the cdl weight in Colorado.

You might be right on the weight issues but several have had the Cummings put in them and its way better than the "power by Ford" gas jobs.

About 12 years ago I drove a rental truck like this from Harrisonburg, VA to Mobile, AL. It had a big box and also pulled a trailer with a car on it. The engine worked like it was designed but that was really weak. The 4 speed Allison didn't help much either. It was mostly "pedal to the metal" except down hill. I looked at the plate on the engine and as I remember it was a 175hp.
If you take the box off that will make a big difference. Maybe get some one to turn it up 25-40 hp.

What year is this truck? I have a F800 from 1989 with juice breaks, and it has the elec/hydraulic maxi park break, pain in the butt. I don't have diesel or 6 speed, my truck has a 5 speed with 2 speed rear end and 429 gas. I would not buy another truck with juice breaks, parts are harder to get, and more $$$ when you can find them. Ford only did this stupid park break for a few years. Bruce
