1989 F350 with 10,000 lb trailer

Hey Guys I have a 1989 F350 Dually with a 351 and that thing will pull anything I hook to it. The 460 would've been more common but this one came with the 5.8. Oh well it does what I need and saves a little on gas. Does anyone else have a gasser that does well? What kind of rigs do you guys use?

I have a 1981 F350 with a dump bed. Had the gutless wonder 351M. a 4 bbl carb. and cam helped it a lot. Push rods would bend just right when it sounded really nice.
Put a 460 in it that's stock from a 1985 and that engine really pulls good. I switched the same carb over to the 460. Gas mileage with trailer actually went up from 7 to 8 MPG.

Have a 79 w150 dodge with a built 360 that does really well but mileage stay 7-8mpg empty or loaded but its full time 4wd, have a newer dodge powerwagon with th 6.4 hemi and does well to with 4.56 gears 8-12 loaded depending on load, I've hauled my g1355 tractor around 16,000 pounds and averaged 8.3 which isn't bad and it pulled good

I pull a 15000 gooseneck flatbed with a 5.4 in a 03 F250 4X4 extended cab shortbed. Have a 91 Dodge Cummins and my son has another Cummins and 2- 7.3 Powerstrokes. But when we go to a tractor pull generally take the gasser. It is quieter, tires and engine. 178000 One plug coil. 2 sets of plugs. New ball joints, brakes and brake line from front to back. Realy good service. With the difference in price of gas and diesel. Next truck will have a 6.2 or maybe a ecoboost. Vic

Yes the 4 speed. Granny low and I think 4th is direct. Another gear between 3rd and 4th would be nice to have. I have had some REALLY HEAVY loads behind that rig. Probably glad there was no scale handy.

We had a 1967 Dump truck that had a 360 and that thing would haul any load we dropped in the bed. One time we have it over full and one of the dual wheels snapped off and went rolling beside us. The semi tow truck barely could life the front end up. Needless to say we weren't gonna haul wet dirt anymore.

I have a 1997 GMC K-1500 with the 5.7 Vortec and pull a 14,000 lb. low profile deck over. Truck gets job done but will go bigger truck when it comes time to replace it.

I tow with an 85 F-250 4x4 . It has the 6.9 diesel, a bit slow on the hills but it always gets to the top with 11 MPG loaded down. Since the photo, I have added a 4 foot fore-deck to the 6-ton trailer and got rid of the Dayton wheels during a brake job.

Might be a little newer, but I have a 2002 Chevy 3500 with the 8.1L and 4.10 gears. Probably the pinnacle of big block technology, and probably the last one we'll see in our lifetimes.

I don't count the Ford V10 as a big block because it's a small block 5.4L with two extra cylinders.

That's why I like Dayton wheels, You don't loose a wheel when the lugs brake off. My 1968 Dodge D600 360 5+2 will haul anything put in its bed and then some. The truck belonged to the company I use to work for and they loaded it with garbage and had my take it to the dump. I never got in the high side of the axel on the 28 mile trip and only got to 45 mph one time going down hill. Got to the dump and pulled on the scales and was called in the office, Guy at the scales asked me if this was a joke? I know the truck is heavy but its not a joke, How much dose it weigh? 47,800 lbs. No wonder I couldn't get any speed getting here. It ran a lot better after it was unloaded. Oh the truck is a 25,800 GVW so it was a little overloaded! The bed is 13'6" long and 7' wide inside and 3' tall and is loaded with cut and split and stacked fire wood, So it has a load on it now. Bandit

Surely won't be worse than 8. Don't believe all the mileage posted on here. 2 yrs ago went on a 700 mile trip and followed a Dodge diesel. Our cost per mile was almost the same. Diesel was the best by 1 cent a mile. And I bought 92 Octane. Had a 92 Octane pulling program. Vic

Nothing wrong with Daytons when torqued properly. I did have a trailer throw the wheel in Los Angeles once, no one damaged fortunately as I try to go through there before dawn. I got rid of them for two reasons, bad Chinese 14.5 tires and I needed new, round drums.
That's a heck of a Dodge. A guy has the same-Era C800 rigged as a tow truck I am trying to buy.

The egoboost in magazine tests is great empty, but the one magazine had all the half-tons in a big comparison, the egoboost was the 2nd-worst mileage of the bunch when towing vs everyone else's v8's. I think the Toyota was the only one worse.

Sweet cabover ya got there, I run a small cabinet shop and that would make an excellent delivery truck. Johnny

I bought my first new truck in 96 and it was a 95 F350 5.8 auto 4:11 gears 11.000 GVW that was a left over. After 30.000 miles the good fuel mileage ended and turned to 14 or 15 in the summer to 10 or 12 in the winter. The truck would pull anything I hooked to it, The biggest thing I hauled was an IH TD9 Droitt 4 in one bucket track loader on a tri axel goose neck. Only moved it about 18 miles and it was a load! I didn't brake any speed records getting it there but I got it moved. I still have the truck and it has over 300.000 miles on it. I haven't driven it much anymore because it has a trans issue. She's been a good old truck for me, Wish I could buy another new one for $15.000 and I don't think I will be doing that again. Bandit

2003 Chevy 2500HD 4x4 with the 8.1L engine and the 5 speed Allison auto. This thing tows well. I have had around 10-14K on a trailer with no issues. has the 3.75 gearing and gets almost 15mpg empty and 10-12mpg towing depending on load and terrain.
