I changed the shocks on my 04 Dodge dually today...130k miles - I thought they would be shot but they worked pretty much the same as the new Monroes I put on and I can't tell any difference in the ride. This truck has a 14k trailer hooked to its tail 95% of the time. I wonder if the fact that I run loaded would extend the life of the shocks? Anyone else getting high mileage out of oem shocks?

Well I have a 95 F350 dually flat bed with over 300,000 miles on the OEM back shocks. I am quit sure there shot but the truck ran empty most of the time and with an 11000 GVW it road like a tank anyway. I don't think shocks on the back of a 1 ton do much of anything, Fronts yes backs no. Bandit

Hi Eldon, also have '04 Dodge dually diesel, shocks good. In fact at ~197k miles, IIRC, all OE except for: Drivers side front axle u-joint and unit hub; 2 clutches/1 flywheel-used cheap clutch first time and splined hub broke out of disc and ate flywheel, fixed right the second time. Did install in-tank OE fuel pump shortly after purchase as I had heard bad things about cowl mounted suction type. Hood support gas springs now need replaced, otherwise she's good to go! (Hope I didn't put the curse on her, lol).

I've been pleased with mine also. Replaced batteries and brakes last year. Both front U-joints and rear U-joint a couple of years ago. No clutch problems yet, even though I have the Juice w/attitude programmer set on "tow" most of the time. Now I have been watching U-tube videos and am a bit concerned about the stock fuel filter and injector damage....have you had any injector problems? Thinking about going to the 2 micron pre-filter before it's too late.

Eldon, have replaced brakes all around and 1 set of batteries (~8 years) -didn't list them as I consider them normal wear. Have had no injector problems at all, truck is totally stock, run regular diesel, infrequently a tank of bio diesel, no other additives; standard NAPA Gold fuel filters. Have heard yea and nay on finer filtration, pretty happy so far, guess I'll leave mine as-is, but good luck whichever way you go.

The more weight above the shock, the better it can work. The whole inertia and mass deal. The shocks job is to slow the action of the spring. The valving is based on unsprung weight, and the more weight above it, the less the body moves, the smoother the ride.

With that many miles your shocks are probably shot. Pull them and check for smooth resistance from top to bottom and back. I bet there's a dead spot at ride height.

A set of hydraulic shocks would probably make a big difference. Pro-comp 1000 or 3000 series, or Skyjacker 7000s, and they aren't that costly.

If you run ULSD fuel without an additive to put some lubricity back into it you will have excessive wear on the inj. pump, injectors, etc. especially if you are increasing rail pressure (most Edge products DO increase pressure). I use Schaeffer's Diesel Treat or Nuetra to add lubricity.
