8- 14.5 to 9-14.5 trailer tires

Currently run 8-14.5 tires 2875 lbs rated on my gooseneck but
found much heavier load rating (1000 lbs more per tire) but
they are 9-14.5. Question is will they be ok on the current
mobile home style wheels. I know the wheels and axles are
not rated for the extra weight nor is the trailer. It's only 12k
rated. Just wondering if anyone has expierenced better tire
wear and or stability with the heaver tires

I think I would be worried about putting a wider tire on those MH rims, with the shallow bead, they might be more prone to rolling off the bead on turns.

You won t have any trouble at all,we were having trouble getting 8-14.5 and switched to 9-14.5 for a customer who ran a nursery. They were loaded heavy all of the time and sure did not take care of tires unless they were flat. They had a lot better service with the 9-14.5.

I didn't know they had a 9 14.5 I'm running 8 14.5 they have 12 ply and 14 ply the 14 is a lot better lasts a lot longer and less trouble with flats . My trailer had 7 14.5 and going to the 8 made a big difference in less flats .

I have a tri axle, and talk about side twist if turning sharp. I haven't popped a tire off the rim yet. Just keep the pressures where there suppose to be.

The 8x14.5 and the 9x14.5 will work on the same rim without any problems. One thing to know if you buy tires to put on the trailer make sure they say "For Trailer" or "Trailer" and not "Mobil Home Only". Its a good way to get a ticket, Don't ask how I know. One Mobil home only tire on the trailer (the spare) cost me $250 when I got pulled over for a road check. They seam to be getting very picky these days! Bandit

Be careful with that trailer. Some states are getting picky about the axles too. In some states if you get pulled over for a check and they find Mobile Home axles under the trailer you may just get a hefty fine or be stuck there until you can get someone with a legal trailer to pick up your load for you.

The reason for this is that many of the mobile home axles never had a tag for their weight rating.

In other states as long as it is currently titled and tagged to you the will license it. If you sell it the new owner cannot get it tagged.

Better check your state laws on these axle types. Know some people that have got burned with these.

Are they mobile home "style" axles, or actual mobile home axles? They both have Dayton style wheels, but other than that they are two completely different animals.

One is designed to haul a trailer for tens of thousands of miles. The other is designed to move a small house a few hundred miles.
