need a refresher on trucking laws

Looking at bidding on an 8 row narrow folding planter. Planter is 200 miles away. Would it be over width if I backed it on the trailer? I dont haul equipment ever, cant remember if its 10 ft max width? Or should I take the hitch off and load it sideways?

Maximum legal width without special permits is 8'6", or 108 inches. Most agriculture equipment is exempt, but the exemption is lost when the machine is loaded on a trailer pulled behind a truck. Either remove the hitch and load it sideways, or just hitch it behind your truck and go.

What state you in? I think Illinois, as long as you are under something like 12 or 14 feet, no permits needed, daylight only, for ag equipment. Nebraska, as long as it's your equipment, or you have been hired by a dealer to deliver it, no permits needed.

It will depend on the state. As said in IL as long as it has a wheel base, no permits for ag till you exceed 14 FT wide, this is for legal height. WI if you are not over 10 wide and stay off the interstate no permits needed. Most of the rest will need permits. OK is now since about 3 years ago 12 ft and over need pilot cars now. Under 12 ft no car. The also dropped the ag exemption.

Rusty;
You need to replace your batteries in your calculator.

Calculator? What is that?

Actually, the maximum width without a special permit is 102 inches. You have to subtract about 6 inches to allow for fat fingers.
