i would like to purchase an electric winch to put on my trailer. i sometimes need to pull old john deeres up on the traliler. A,s 620, AR etc. any advice as to what i should consider, size, brand etc? thanks

I purchased a Badland winch from Harbor Freight for my trailer and am pleased with it. I got the 12k winch on sale, along with the wireless remote. Everything together was about ~$330??

Winch has a really long lead(I have a 25+5 trailer) and reaches no problem to end of ramps. I also installed a deep cycle battery on the trailer to run it. I use it mainly to pull a wobble wheel roller at truck pulls(~3000# or so) and works great.

I did use it to pull up a 8n with a brush hog on back and flat front tires. I used a snatch block and took my time with it. Worked good, had to stop a couple times to let it cool down. If I pulled more dead equipment on and off, I would probably get some long battery leads to make sure I have enough juice to pull it on.

I was able to get a Warn winch cover off amazon to cover it while not in use and during transport, fits great. I also put a small solar battery charger on the neck of my trailer to keep battery up to snuff in between uses.

Overall I would absoutly get another Badland 12k winch. Also wireless remote is a must have. Battery died on the wireless controller so I had to use the wired controller. Really got spoiled with the wireless controller. I actually used it a time or two to also unload my narrow front Super C. Backed up to the ramps and once it started to roll back, I used the wireless remote to safely back down the ramps.

I too, have the 12,000lb from Harbor-Freight. Pulled a Moline 602 up the trailer with no problem. I use a RV battery with it. I have it mounted on the trailer so I can take it off with just two pins. That way I can keep it out of the weather.

If you mount it using a receiver hitch, you can use it on your truck as well. Add a receiver to your tractor as well?

With much skepticism I read a lot of good reports on the H.F. winches on off road forums and put their 9000 lbs unit on my 6 ton trailer. After 1.5 years and many recoveries of dead vehicles with flat tires I bought a 12000 lbs unit and put the 9K one on my light car hauler. Love that remote for un-assisted loading.
