Hello All:
My daughter is down in durango CO and her timeing belt broke and the mechanic down there wants big money for replacement therefore i am considering have it shipped back to my house in WI and do it in my home shop does anyone no know of a reasonable transport company or person to bring it back home

I would be willing to bet that it would be cheaper for you to go there to fix it.
Just do your homework first to know what you need to do.

How old is the car? Unless it is fairly new, your daughter might be ahead to either get it fixed there or sell the car and buy another to drive back.

Another possibility, thinking outside the box. I'm retired & have the free time, but I would hop in the truck, rent a tow dolly, & have a nice road trip going to get it.

Can she get by until Christmas? Does she have a decent place to work on it inside? If it works pack up your wrenches and spend Christmas there with her. JMHO

Who in the world gave her that price. I live in Durango and there are many good independent shops around. If it is the Ford dealer I can understand - just don't go there.

Have her call around and check BBB listings.

Also Farmington NM is 45 miles away and they have some great service places there too. Some will come and get it as a service.

You did not mention what make and model it is. $3800 for a timing belt and valve job seems on the surface to be an excessively high price. But, some modern engines are very expensive to repair. Some even require removing the engine to work on it. Just a thought.......
