Got a 1996 Ford Bronco.Have tryed everything an can't get it out park.We drove it in the carport and have not been able to move it since. You can crank it up put your foot on the brake,i believe could break the gearshift off trying to move it.Has anyone had that problem?

check to see if the brake lights work. If not replace the fuse and then it should come right out of park.

Typical modern engineering, can't drive it until repaired, but can't repair until you drive it to a shop.
Couple things to try.
If it has the shifter on the floor/console- look for a small hole or pop out tab, maybe 1/4 x 1/2 inch, close to shifter. Poke with key or a small screw driver. That might release the lock.
If it has shifter on column- not sure about Ford, but this works on GM cars/light trucks. Turn key to OFF! That is the spot between LOCK & RUN. Move shifter to N. Start it up & drive away. Of course, if you put it back into park you will have to do the same again until repairs can be made. And you can't get the key out unless shifter is in Park.

Thanks a million for the info.It had a blown fuse, put in a new one it was fixed. Its amazing what a wealth of knowledge on this website? All you have to do is ask, someone or two or three has had the same problem, been there and done that. Thanks again men.

Glad I could help. On a Ford when it won't come out of park that is the first thing that I look for.

Its usually the brake light fuse. If you are caught out some where and no fuse there is another way on those Fords. Turn the key with your right hand and when you are half way from run to start use your left hand to move the gear lever out of park.

Can you turn the steering wheel? Sometimes the wheel lock will bind and all other problems come out.

The little solenoid that has the lock pin that does all of that, just clip the wire. Ive seen them stick before and not lock, others ive clipped the wire, i also cut the wires or pull the plug at the drivers side seat belt bracket where its bolted to the floor, gets rid of the seat belt buzzer/light. More reasons to have older stuff!
