Got the tractor home, went and got my CDL, my health card and made sure I was legal as can be, never seen a DOT lol. Went 80 east then down 47 and then 24 if I remember right, came back on 17 to 47. Scale was closed on 80 when we went through at 10 pm, stayed over night in Princeton, Ill then made the rest of the trip next day. Scale on 24 was closed and it looked like it hasnt been used in awhile. Anyway thanks for the help.

Wilson, sorry I didn"t see your post, I sure would of hauled it if possible, sorry.

Now for the good part, realize that your license will expire in two years if you do not furnish the state a new physical. OR you can exempt your self for farm only and keep a limited cdl on regular expiration dates.

If the DOT wants to play games, then why can't we play games too?

I see nothing morally or ethically wrong with temporarily transferring ownership of a tractor to avoid the "hauling for hire" black hole when I am doing someone a favor.

People wail and moan about red light cameras and any other way law enforcement uses technology to enforce the laws on the books. The way it looks to me, you are saying that breaking the law is okay so long as you don't get caught.

If the "bill of sale" trick is breaking the law in your book, what's the difference between that and running a red light or exceeding the speed limit? The latter two are okay in your book. A bill of sale has no bearing on whether the tractor is properly secured on the trailer, or the trailer is in good shape, or the truck has good brakes, etc..
