Hauling tractor with rental moving truck

Has anyone ever moved a tractor with a rental box-type truck? We are trying to rent a truck to move a lot of household stuff and tools. Central New York to northern Michigan. 750 miles approx. I've been trying to find a way to take one of my tractors on this move. Either an IH B-275 or a Ferguson TO-35. No loaded tires. So tractor weight 3200-3500 lbs. I'd also like to take my 3-point log splitter hanging off the back of the tractor.

I started out with a 26' foot truck from Uhaul that allows towing up to a 7500 lb. trailer. They will allow me to use my own trailer but it must hook to a 2" ball. Mine uses a 2 5/16" ball.

So then I tried Budget Rental. They only have a 24 foot truck and they require I rent only their trailer. But they say it must only carry an auto that they preapprove. Not a tractor.

Any ideas?

Would your total trailer load be safe with a 2 inch ball rating? If so, maybe you could temporarily switch it to 2 inch coupler if it's just a bolt-on.

Shouldn't even mention it. Just do it! My brother in
law rented a Penske rental truck. for a 900 mi.
move. Wanted to haul a Mazda Miata and a ezgo gold
cart. Guy said the Mazda wasn't on the approved
list. Go figure! The ezgo was though.

With your collection of cars and trucks you don't own a box truck ?
Might be a good time to find one ?

Around here, they ask for all the details of the car to be hauled, even the license plate number. Although I think the plate is not mandatory

if your going to haul either of those on a trailer behind the box truck it should be no problem, if your talking about hauling the tractor IN the truck thats a whole different thing, first if you breath a word about a tractor they wont rent you the truck, if you keep quiet, the other problem is securing the tractor in the truck so it wont move, the standard tie downs found inside most moving related trucks are for furniture, and box type freight, they arnt solid enough to hold the tractor and will just tear out of the wall if they get stressed in a panic stop, if you screw wood cleats to the floor of the truck to help hold the tractor in place, theyll see the holes when you turn the truck in and thats a big fine for damage, if you do manage to somehow wedge it in there so it wont come up front with you if you have to slam on the brakes for some idiot, your going to have those nice ag bar marks on the nice floor of the truck, and you have to get them off or theyll fine you for the tractor being in there
