rusted oil pan on 2001 Dodge diesel

How rusted is it? My truck is two wheel drive but I'll look at it. I would think the engine would need to be lifted because you might not be able to get the pan around the sump.

I had to lift the engine slightly on my 2006 Dodge diesel to
change the oil pan. Fortunately, I did not have to remove the
oil pump pickup tube in order to get the pan off after removing
the capscrews, which the service manual said was required!
The front motor mounts were slotted, so it made it a little
easier to lift than I expected. Although it was a real pain to get
the engine back down in the slots.
At least your oil pan is less than the $450 that I had to pay for
mine!

I've pulled the pan a few of that vintage and you have to lift the engine up till it hits the cab. You also have to unbolt the fan shroud so you don't break it when you lift the engine. The engine mounts have slots in them so you can lift it without removing the bolts, just loosen them. Once your enigne is lifted you can unbolt the pan. I can't remember exactly, but I believe you'll have to drop the pickup tube into the pan to get it out.
