To Load/Unload or Not

How far do you guys travel on two lane hilly roads before you decide to load up/chain down and trailer your tractor. We have a utility compact NH TC35 that needs to go 6 miles and return; not necessarily the same day.

I have several tractor shows that I could drive tractor to but the roads are hilly. I trailer mine because people fly up and down hills and they could come flying over the top of a hill and heres a tractor doing 20 mph and I don't feel like spending time in hospital or maybe worse.

I once set out to drive about three miles and after less than a half turned around and went and got my trailer. Loading doesn't take that long and gives you transport once you get to where you are going.

if its more than a mile, or the roads i need to use are busy, i load it up, there is just too many idiots texting, putting on makeup, and doing everything but driving today to chance roading a tractor on the same roads as they travel

I'll drive the tractor if it's less than about 10 miles, during the week, and on side roads. If it's main roads or the weekend when all the crazies are out I'll trailer it.

i go by miles and driving time on that particular tractor. If it's 30min or less I'll road her.. providing it's a big enough machine to road safely. IE. not sure I'd take a cub lowbow on the road. but my NH 7610s with batwing mower. sure. i road it 4m each way to a pasture to cut.

Depends on ...
The road
The posted speed limit
Traffic flow
Farm equipment restrictions
Actual tractor
Signage
Lighting
Escort vehicle behind or not
Local vehicle enforcement

I once followed a guy on a tractor doing 15 m.p.h.
on a twisty paved country road for 9 miles ...

Speed limit was 35 m.p.h.

He had no signage - no lights - no escort vehicle

He never pulled over

That guy deserved a ticket

I drove my tractor to a nearby farm to return a hay rake. Only about a 1/4 of a mile. On the return trip back home I had a wreck. I was turning left into my driveway when a car tried to pass on the left. The car run into the front end loader. No one was hurt. Just removed the front fender from the car and scratched the paint on the bucket. Being a volunteer fire fighter I had my radio and called the highway patrol. The officer called me the victim and asked what I wanted him to do. I said a hand signal refresher course would be nice. He thought that was a good idea and asked me to give it. LOL Anyway I had flashing lights SMV and was hand signaling.
