thinkin about changing the ball to a kingpin type hook up, has anybody tried it? did you like it? and did it change the ride? thank's..

I have never pulled the true goose, but drove semi for many years. I put a fifth wheel pin in mine when I picked it up.

I have an extended cab with cross type toolbox so the fifth wheel makes hookup very easy.

I would get the model with the larger plate as opposed to the little round plate that is out there.

I switched mine over because I was tired of switching hitches when going to a show. Now just back up and click hook the light and roll. I can't believe I waited so long.

If your hauling over uneven terrain then stick with the GN ball as it allows the trailer to twist and turn better.

If strictly hauling on the road the the king pin setup is quicker and easier to attach.

My Reese 5th wheel hitch rocks both fore an aff and also side to side. No flex to the frame at all.
Cheap hitches rock only one way.

(quoted from post at 21:33:13 04/28/14) I've never seen a 5'er hitch that has the range of motion as a GN ball.

They prolly don't but mine ain't no off road setup, has plenty of travel.

That's why I said if you haul mainly on the road then the KP setup is quicker and easier to hookup and use and not a bad way to go.

I use my GN trailers to haul hay and cattle in and out of fields which requires crossing some ditches and climbing small hills. These kinds of situations I need all the motion I can get.

I changed mine due to using a semi to pull. But kept the goose neck were i can slide back in if some one needs to use it. I like the king pin the best.

I ordered my Kaufman trailer with a kingpin using it for some lighter loads because my reese 14000 hitch was originally used for a small camper. I could get a goose neck adapter from Kaufman and a goose neck plate cheaper than buying a new heavy fifth wheel hitch. The fifth wheel hitch wasn't as tight of hookup as the goose neck. A lot of fore and aft movement.

If you have a lot fore and aft in a fifth wheel and if you have a good fifth wheel you should be able to adjust it ( if the kingpin is not worn).

I think the 5th wheel hitch is inherently stronger---And my 5th wheel hitch pivots front to back and sideways--its great for towing a camper on the beach where the sand is really uneven
