Trailer brake controler troubleshooting

I turned to short with my trailer and pulled the wiring out of the trailer plug in end. I followed the wiring diagram that I had from another trailer. I am using the six way round plug in. All my lights and turnsignals are working but I do not have any brakes. I did measure the voltage coming out of the trailer pin and was only getting around .78 volts. Does anyone think that my controler is fried?

the power line ( usually blue ) from the brake controller to the magnet is not a constant voltage. it is based on a few things.. controller type especially. Most of them use a small current loop to sense load ( magnet present ) and depending on how high your controller is set, is what voltage it will provide.

recheck grounds. bad grounds are some of the biggest probs with e-brake setups

I really doubt it damaged the controller. They have short circuit protection, they have to, think of the odds that trailer brakes will get shorted, happens all the time and I've never seen it damage the controller.

Double check your wiring, something is connected wrong or pulled loose in the harness.

I did have the ground wire and auxilary power wires swapped around. My controler is a voyager and there is a green light that usually came on but it doesnt any more. Does the trailer have to be hooked to the pickup to help ground or there the ground wire in the plug enough?

The ground wire in the plug is the one you want to depend on, not grounding just through the hitch.

The green light comes on when the controller senses a complete and proper circuit from the controller through the wiring, magnet coils, and back to the controller.

Something must still be missing in the circuit if the plug is connected and no green light.
