Going to ohio from Pa to pick up a tractor how is dot in that state do i need to put not for hire on my trailor do i need any fancy paper work

As a former trucker/mechanic, I can say from first hand experience that Ohio DOT has a bad reputation for being overly picky about details. Basically not truck friendly. I suggest that you do some checking on what your requirements for your particular rig are, and make sure that you dot the Is and cross the Ts. Otherwise, alternate plan is to go around the scales.

I live in Ohio and the State Highway patrol told me that i don't need not for hire if i am hauling my own stuff and not making money with it.But you know their is always one out their that will tell you different. Good Luck Happy Hauling....

As stated above the state of Ohio does not like truckers, will stop you just because they can, and will write a ticket for every thing they can find wrong, or think it is wrong. btdt former otr driver

If ya ain't under permit and have to follow the permit routes i never cross a scale empty or loaded . your just asking for trouble . I will drive thru the gates of HELL_O before i cross a scale . Ya get to see some nice country out on the OLD GOAT PATHS .

Don't know how you plan on coming into the great state of the Buckeye but if your coming in on I 80 west bound once you pass the Hubbard exit route 7-62 your next stop is the Chicken house (scales) , if your coming in on I 70 once past I77 the next stop is the Chicken house . Now IF you want a back door way in let me know where your coming from and where your going and i can plot a course that will take you around all places of no interest to your wallet.

I always dodge the scales, but if you are not a commercial vehicle, then things should be different, I would call Oh DOT and ASK
