Trailer Jack - your preferances

Just upgraded my trailer and the one I bought has a busted trailer jack.

Looking for a 3500 Lb. Capacity Drop Leg Trailer Jack that swings out of the way. What do y'all use on your bumper pull trailers?

PS - would like to had grease fitting to grease worm gear as I dislike that screeching when they get dry.

I like the jack that has a wheel on the bottom so if I am just close to being right for hook up a guy and push or pull the tongue to line things up easy. Of course when I say push or pull I use a bar to do the work.

Tractor Supply has the ones that swing up and you can get them with a wheel or flat pad on them. My trailer is much bigger and it has a 12,000 lb. drop leg jack.

Buy two so if you ever go to a Roy Teitsworth auction in ny and they smash yours after you tell them to stop over and over again you will have a spare.

With one that mounts to the piece of pipe that you weld to the frame, you can burn a hole in a piece of angle iron, weld or bolt it just about anywhere, to stow the jack, so it doesn't have to hang on the side of the tongue.

Never had much success with the swing up models.

I prefer the solid welded drop leg type, mounted in the center instead of off the side.

This gives a straighter lift instead of twisting the frame, it's much stronger, and it's out of the way when backing and need to make a sharp turn.

Here are the pics of jack I am thinking of replacing.

That's the kind I replaced. Only it was up in the V behind the hitch, and when we hooked it behind a truck with a bale bed, you had to wind it a 1/2-turn at a time, or lift it onto the ball.
Main reason for taking it off was so we could run a 4-wheeler over the front of the trailer and into the truck, but it probably gets half again as much use now that it is easier to hook behind the bale beds.

I have an 18' car/hay/everything trailer.. 7000lb cap.. it has a drop down.. I like it because its out of the way. AND thats where I store my spare too. DOnt like the side swings. know of a few that get bent up because they have been backed into while backing up and turning trailer making the jack not functional.

the only reason that a jack like you got gets busted is people do not run it all the way up when they hook up to the trailer. If it was mine I would want it up closer to the safety cables That way I could have room for a spare tire or a tool box. You want the jack in the center so if you unhook and have a load it will set level and not bend the jack.

i like the kind that swings up or you can completly remove it and put it in the truck we operate in rough terraine sometimes, and a fixed jack will hit no matter how high you crank it up. if you stay on paved roads either fixed or swing away will be fine
