Getting trailer drums machined

The drums on my trailer are grooved where the magnets ride. Would an auto shop that turns drums be able to turn the magnet surface or should I try a machine shop?

Those drums are not meant to be machined in that area. If you get them too thin they will crack around the stud holes. Be safe, replace them, they are not that expensive.

How bad are the grooves? A pic would be great. Most have grooving when it's time for brakes, but the new magnets will wear to fit the grooves quickly and without a problem unless the grooving is very bad. In that case it's probly time to do as said and bite the bullet and get new ones.

Hi
I had a trailer here I borrow for doing the maintenance on instead of paying rental. last time i Had the hubs off I noticed it had machining spec numbers in the drum for the outer drum, and the magnet area, basically it is the mesurements that you can"t exceed for drum diameter and thickness of the magnet ring in the hub. if it won"t machine good without staying in this spec they are junk.
Try looking to see if you have drums with specs in.
Or the manufacturers/ trailer supply may be able to supply them.
Regards Robert
