Well found me a really clean spotless 2005 f240 super cab 6.0 diesel! Bought it yesterday hope it does me good! Only has 40000 miles on it clean car fax report! Cant afford a new one so went used!

Whats the coolant look like? Unless the seller has records of when it was last changed, best thing to do is go to your local Ford dealer and have them do an "Iron Out" flush on it. If the coolant is original and you don"t do anything with it, there is an EGR cooler and oil cooler in your near future.

When the turbo, egr cooler and oil cooler went in my 6.0, besides the replacements and the EGR delete, the shop put in an auxiliary coolant filter. Brian you may want to do the EGR delete ASAP!!!!! along with a coolant filter.

I also own an 05 6.0. My advice is spend $125 at your dealer to check it out. I did and it saved me $1000 on the module that increases the voltage at startup. They also hook a computer to it and drive it. They can compare exhaust temps to (don't remember the other one), but they catch a plugged erg cooler before it gets really messy. Also, install an inline coolant filter kit. This is a must! A temp gauge kit will help identify problems just like the dealers computer.

Mine has had 3 erg coolers, 2 oil coolers, and head gasket replacement within 80,000 miles. So to own one, you better put back $2,000-$4,000 in the rainy day fund if nothing is covered under warranty. Not to mention the $100 per oil and fuel filter changes that get expensive if you drive it a lot. Mine now only gets driven when hauling something and spends 90% of the time sitting in the garage.

Thats a really sharp truck you have there. I always liked the way those Fords looked. I wouldnt mind dropping my 12v Cummins in one of those.

Hi
Sorry to here about your situation I"m not a praying man but you are in my thoughts. Hopefully you got the only one that"s any good and Ford Want it back for the museum, and will pay good money for it L.O.L.
To be honest round us nobody would of brought that truck even at those low miles. The local dodge dealers will not even bid on a 6 liter diesel Ford, they got burned on used vehicle warranty a few to many times.
This is why I got a 7.3 and re built the running gear, 537.000 kms and the motor still runs good.
6.0 round us has been worth less than the equivalent milage 2003 7.3 for a while.

Was near given a 6.0 at the time I got my 7.3. My local parts /Used to be Ford dealer even told me to leave it alone.
Good luck I hope we are all wrong about this truck and yours is the good one.
Regards Robert

Same here, dealer warned me away from 6.0 unless I wanted to be prepared for big $$$ fixes. I kept seeing 6.0 trucks way newer and way less km's for way less money then 7.3 trucks.

Just seen what the egr cooler leak can do. It is in a IHC Tandem grain truck. gunk in the intake ports. Do a egr delete asap!

There aren't any exhaust temp sensors on 6.0. What they were looking at is the engine oil temp vs engine coolant temp. Oil more than 30 degrees hotter than the coolant indicates a restricted oil cooler. Low coolant flow through the oil cooler is what restricts coolant flow through the EGR cooler causing it to fail. If you've never done the iron out flush on yours, that would be a good idea. The iron out dissolves the rust and silicates that clog the oil cooler.

Those are Moto-Metal 20" wheels with Nitto tires. I changed them out for a set of Cooper discoverer all terrain 35x12.5x20 tires (llok the same). They ride much better and not near the roaring sound. The truck has a 4" lift kit.

i'd be leary of buying a 6.0 that didn't have 100k on it. just to prove it made it out of infant mortality. mind you.. 05 should be ok.

good luck.

I'd take a 7.3 any day of the week.
