7.3 Poerstroke fuel filter

Last weekend I drove my 99 F-250 7.3 powerstroke and found the drain on the fuel filter leaks by at a good rate. Is there a way to repair the valve or just replace the hole thing out? How difficult is it to change?
Thanks, leaky

Fairly simple but in a tight place. Two #202 o-rings between the plastic valve and the filter housing need to be replaced. Its held on with two #20 torx screws. Hardest part of it is fishing the screws out of the valley when you drop them. Stuff a rag under it to try to catch the screws and have your magnet handy. Aggravating 30 minute job just because of the location but not worth pulling the filter housing to fix. Make sure to get diesel-rated o-rings.
A replacement valve is about $40 at the dealer.

Thank You Scott, I would say to do this when it warms up but from 0-10 is the warm spell. Looks like this weekends job.

Hi
Yeah it"s a warm weather job, did mine outside in - 16 oc a few weeks ago shop was full with customer tractors, and didn"t have space.
Was not fun with no gloves on! I fitted the new tap, think the old rings where yellow and the new improved are green. I did notice that the new tap was way stiffer to turn than old, so im guessing my tap was worn as well.
I think the bottom screw was the most awkward and took the most time to do. I used a 1/4 drive ratchet with a short torx bit in a socket to get maximum tool clearance, in the small space to do mine .
Bad news is it was a pig to do, but good news no more buck 30 a liter fuel on the drive, and all over the top of the motor.

The only thing i do wonder after doing mine would I of been better doing the full re build now, as if those rings went south, how long will it be before the others get eaten by the fuel and start leaking and I'm back there again!
Regards Robert

My 2000 was leaking past the valve not the Oring I was in a pinch out on the road when it happened so I took a rubber cap and put it over the drain cock. Then when I got home I went to my local napa and just replaced the whole unit it wasn't a bad job 20-30 min. It was a lot better job then replacing the Oring on the high pressure oil lines, those Orings were a bear and sure were salty. One word of advice go to Ford and spend the cash on the rite Oring for the high pressure oil lines I learned the hard way and had to do that crappy job twice.
