Who have you guys used recently to ship tractor stuff like engines, hitches, etc. ? I have a 1 point fast hitch that came off an IH tractor that I need to ship. I have it banded on a pallet ready to drop off at a local freight shipper. I have shipped one a couple years back for around $180 through R&L Carriers (I think) but when I looked on their site for a quote, it quoted me a little over $400.!! The hitch isn't very big and weighs (according to 1962 IH Price Bulletin) around 268 lbs.

Try Fastenal. They ship store to store. I just ordered a bunch of cultivator parts ~100# for my JD H cultivator from a gentleman in Michigan on this website. Was about $100 for shipping a pallet like you show.

Funny you mention Fastenal because just last night I had a guy tell me he was going to get a quote from them to ship something I have. I had NO IDEA they did that. He said they are MUCH MUCH cheaper than going with UPS or USPS. I will be trying them from now on! I also heard Greyhound does the same thing.
I did use Uship on the Fast hitch and it went well.

Haha. Funny you mention uship. I have been cordinating all week for a guy to deliver it via uship. I got notification about 30 minutes ago that it was just delivered to te buyer house within 24 hrs. Overall a great expierence .....well I haven't heard from the buyer yet so I am assuming so.

How did you go about it? Was it via USHIP, was it on a pallet by Frieght company, was it individual peices shipped in boxes via UPS? That sounds REALLY good considering this hitch only wieghs about 275 lbs. pallet included.

Another thought, you could price it with UPS. They will ship it in individual pieces. You can print the shipping labels and attach one on each piece.

Yeah, I thought that was a regular pallet but after you mention it, it seems like the last hitch I had shipped fit a little better to where only the lift rod only hung off about an inch or so. I will try to find a better pallet.

Should I put the dimensions of the pallet as the dimensions of the item to be shipped or should I measure the exact item on the pallet? I feel like the dimensions of the pallet is correct since that is the space it takes up. Here is a picture of the hitch I am shipping (less a couple pieces that aren't pictured).

Looks to me like that hitch takes up considerably more space than the pallet and that it will damage other freight around it. I would say that it belongs on a full sized pallet.

I just checked with R&L because I saw a truck going down the road. How could I find out what companies are in my area? What is the search I need to use? Any other way I could ship the palleted fast hitch?

id look in the phone book under trucking inthe yellow pages, around here most ltl freight companies that have a truck running into this area [ none are based here]have a add there to obtain freight orders, if not take a drive around the towns business areas in the middle of the day and look for delivery trucks, here you'll see yellow, fed ex, this is a 10 wheel semi, not the little box trucks, and a few others like tex pac, all have a tommy lift on the trailer to aid the driver in loading or unloading and can easily handel your item, those companies are proffesional, insured and trackable so you know where your item is while its on the road if nessessary

I ship several items and looking at what you have you could easily make it much smaller and FedEx has been good for us.UPS wanted $186 for same items I sent for $47.Priority Mail is hard to beat 70#s for $12 but it has to fit their box.Yellow Freight,Old Dominion, and several others stop here and all have been good.Depending on where it is going the Hauling schedule to the left helps a lot of people get things moved.
