had my trailer out today and noticed a thump/thump. the tires are new and I flat spotted one. Should I be concerned about it? Thanks, Chuck

My experience with flat spotted tires on trailers has not been good, the flat spot wears as fast or faster than the rest of the tread and eventually fails. It will run for a while, but long term outlook is bad.

If you flat spotted one new tire you have other problems. You have brakes that need to be adjusted or repaired. The thumping from the flat spot is also hard on the suspenion of the trailer if the flat spot is bad.

What they said but also , and I don't think I'm the only one to notice this lately, but what ever junk they are building new tires out of in the last few yrs has a tendency to flat spot in cold weather just like the old nylon did back in the day. It's not as bad as nylon but it IS very noticable when you first start out after sitting in the cold overnight. Not just trailer tires either as I had a new set of car radials that did it also. Within 2-3 miles it goes away.

If you have duals on the axle. Deflate one and turn it, some so the flat spots are not lined up together. This will change the wear so the flat spots run against the round part of the tire.
