Old truck title

I am trying to purchase an IH R150 truck, 1950 year model. The seller does not know where the title is. It has belonged to the family for a very long time so they have had it registered to them here in NC. At that age, it never had a VIN but I have the chassis serial number. Anyone been in a similar situation, I am looking for suggestions.

when was it lasttagged and redigestared?the 1957 chevy ton and a half im refurbishing im doing for its original owner he bought it new as its going to be driven again he decided to licence it and redister it, and couldnt find its title either after all these years it turned out the last redistration was still present in the truck, he took that to the dmv, with his id and it was still in the system , the 57 was last redgistared in 1976! the other way is to file for lost title but you will need the current owner to go with you with some kind of proof it is his truck, old resgistration licence tag ect and some proof of him being him, [ picture id] and they need to verify the current owner is selling you the truck somehow , then they can issue a replacement title to do this , depending on curmstances you may have to get the lost title made in his name, then re title it in your name in order to satisfy the leagle b/s

some states allow sale with title in transit too.

IE.. seller has lost title.. and sells it to you, and state sends you out a new title.

and yeah.. will require BOS and both at the dmv usually. at least in fl anyway.

Seller needs to apply for a lost title. If the seller can't or won't do that then you'll need to get a bonded title. Be sure to get a bill of sale from the seller that shows chassis serial number.
Your state's DMV website probably has the info you're looking for.
If you call the DMV ask to speak to the person that handles lost title/no title problems.

"they have had it registered to them here in NC."

It sounds like both you and the seller are both in NC. Ask you state DMV what is needed in this case. If the seller won't comply either cut the price or walk away. Did you asked this question here a few weeks ago?
