I have a 2001 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 7.3 Power Stroke with 278000 miles and it runs as good as new that Tows tractors in the Summer and Snowmobile trailer and plows Snow in the Winter and is my daily Driver to work etc!

I change Oil and filter every 5000 miles with Rotella or Mobil Oil.

How long will it Run ?

The 7.3, and the Cummins 5.9 are the best diesels there ever were. I have seen half a million miles on more than one occasion. I perfer(not trying to start something) the Cummins because I like the inline design better, direct injection and no glow plugs. Plus they get better mileage. Like the 5.9, the 7.3 is a school bus motor and there isnt a whole lot of better diesels out there. Besides some minor issues, glow plugs, it will last 500k.

my 2 7.3s are in a 350 and 450,, the 450 has 130ish on it.. and the 350 has 200 on it. both run good.

the 450 has had syn oil in it from the start.. the 350 probably just the last 30k since i have owned it.

hope to get at least 350+ out of them.. if not 500k will see...

i know if i ever find another cheap 7.3 laying around.. perhaps bad body or accessories out.. inthe low .. say.. 2500$ range or less.. I'll grab it and snatch the engine out of it..

wish the 7.3 was still in production..

Heavy duty testing uses the "B" scale. B10 means 10% fail at a certain mileage, B50 means 50% fail, etc.

International T444E and Ford Powerstroke 7.3 have a B10 rating of 200,000 miles. B50 of 350,000 miles. That means half of them make it to 350,000 miles of hard use with no major repairs.

The Max-force Ford 6.4 liter - as Ford has a B10 rating of 262,500 miles. B50 - 375,000 miles.

Cummins. The 5.9 diesel has a B10 rating of 210-250,000 miles and a B50 of 350,000 miles. More or less the same as the Ford IH "Navigating the Stars" diesels.

I had a 94 that I sold and my son ran into the guy a few years later and it had 490,000 and he just put a transmission in it and also the universal joints since he new I never changed them. I have a 96 with 339.000 on it and still going strong. I also have a 2006 with the 6.0 and have put one turbo and the head gaskets are bad with 117,000. Wish I had bought another 7.3.

We have a 95 powerstroke with 325,000 on it and a 01 with 350,000 or more. Both get oil changes at 5000 miles and frequently pull trailers. The most we have done to them has been valve cover gaskets and and a water pump in each. Both still start great and run like a top.

Where I work they have a 99 f250 with 255000 and she's getting to be tough to start, it's gotten oil changed every 5000 and hauls skidloader for its early life, just gets drove now. Has had minor things go wrong, but don't know how long it's got left.

Hi I have a 99 f250 got 528000 kms on it when I brought it It would near flatten 2 new batteries starting on a warm day. Guy I had it from put about 300.000 on it, and did nothing only topped oil when low, Going by the fact you could stand a 6" nail upright in the middle of 2 quarts of oil i got in a can from it!. I Found the powerstrokehelp.com vids on you tube. Bill said the oil in the Hpop reservior and heads needs sucking out and changing, following his sequence I did that. The truck turns over and fires right up after about 6 turns now even sitting for a couple of days. It runs like new. Most ford techs don't know about this. They say the oil changes itself when the motor runs but it doesn't you get stale oil in the reservoir and heads . When I did this I ended up using about 18 liters of oil not the 14 ford say. But a few extra liters of oil is a lot cheaper than a starter and new injectors I thought I needed.
So if they haven't done this it might be worth looking up and trying to It surprised me.
Regards Robert

I would have the glow plugs checked out. The relays on them tend to fail.

While in college I serviced three F450's with the power stroke that had over 400k on them. Guy hauled used tires from Nashville to recylcler in AL. They kept the road HOT! In my opinion they still had another 100k left in them easy.

798,169 miles outta this one. With a little TLC, they should run damn near forever.

I can only hope for these kind of miles out of mine. I ordered my "03 in late September & received it just before the shutdown for the 6.0/Torque Shift change over.
