another trailer brake question

(quoted from post at 08:45:04 07/05/13) best to call and check with local trailer shops that sell that stuff..

I have been under the impression that we have some trailer shop guys here.

I have never tested a single mag to see what they
draw. If you have brakes that are working good and a
good controller they will pop a 20a fuse feeding the
controller but that doesn't say what a single mag
will draw. I did some minor research and found
nothing in any of my books that mentions it either.
That's why I didn't reply.

probably are, but sometime they don't see this post as much as other tractor post, never hurts to check also, in case... [not being a smart a---]

Been working on and building trailers for over 30 years and never really needed to know how much amperage a magnet draws. They either pretty much work or they don't. I will say this, It takes a different magnet for each GVW weight rating, leading me to believe that the bigger the axle, the more they would draw.

I was told this but thqat was many years ago and plum forgot. As i had a problem with brakes on my goose neck coming back from Iowa . So i made a side trip wright to Dexter axle . They were great i was loaded with two high dollar J D's and a massey 90 , The main office sent me down the street to there service dept. and i meet the main guy and told him of my problem . They took truck and trailer and load and took it into there service bays and when i left there were 4 new magnets four new seals and all new brake lining and when i asked HOW MUCH i was informed that there was NO CHARGE . as it just so happened that the axles under my trailer had defective magnets and that they should have been changed under warranty a long time ago. But from what the man told me then i am thinking he said something like 10 amps each , but do noit hold me to this as this was back in 92-93 when ever the grand opening of the J D two Cylinder thing at Grundy Center opened . I hauled out two tractors for my accountant and one for one of his friends .

mite-help According to the Dexter website 12 1/4 x 3 3/8, 4, and 5 each pull 3 amps. Lynn
