Import form Canada

Can anyone tell me what I need to do (paperwork) to import an antique tractor (1967) from Canada into the US?

Don't know about the paper work. But believe you need to pressure wash the tractor. They don't want any foreign soil or weed seeds.

Might depend on the Port Of Entry that you use. I had a map at one time that had the phone numbers of all the POE's and I just called the one I was going to use and found out what they would be looking for. As long as it was made in the USA you didn't have to pay an import fee at least that was the way it was 8 years ago.

Depends on where it was made, how long it has been in Canada, which portal you use and the mood of the border agent. At the very least you should have a bill of sale, documentation of where it was built, and it needs to be clean. You will have to fill out a import declaration form and there is a small cost. If it was made here there will be no duty.
We brought a USA built tractor back into this country a few years ago. We used the portal between Grand Rapids and Winnepeg on 29/75. Agent that day happened to be an antique tractor nut, wanna guess how much hassle we had? Your luck may differ.

I called customs at Windsor (probably where I would bring it across). They said all I need is a bill of sale showing the price paid. I asked if I would have to pay duty (tractor was made in Canada) and the agent said it would depend on which officer I got. Apparently it it entirely discretionary on the officer"s part as to what and/or how much I might have to pay. Gotta love our government don"t you.

Ya, I dont know about everyone else but Id much rather know exactly what I was about to go through rather than be at the mercy of border agents mood even thoug I got off easy. Two weeks later at same portal a load of three tractors sat for almost a week that had every document I had. You would be wise to wash it even though that agent didn't say anything about it especially if it has any trace of manure on it.
