Trailer tires

So many tires out there, and I have not bought them for 10 years, WOW talk about inflation (pun intended)

What are some good brands and best bang for buck. I should say not the cheapest, but a good to premium tire at a fair price

I have a 34' gooseneck 14,000lb tandem axle, I will have around 9000lb on it most of the time
Thanks
Rick

Goodyear, Firestone or bfgoodrich, not the cheapest but will
wear good, some of the goodyears lately I think have a fair
price on them. Don't know what you wanna spend.

regardless of brand you choose, make sure it is able to carry weight,, i know that they make "g" 14 ply rating for trailers.. never need to worry about load,, if you can afford to buy..

I am a cheap-skate, I just take the tires off my
pickup a little sooner, and put them on my trailer.
Trailer came with 235-85-16. Pickup has 265-75-16
all E rated. 265 have a little bigger load rating.
Have had no trouble doing this. I have been buying
Master-craft tires with a mild all terrain tread. In
other words cheap tires. Truck has 160000 I am on
my 4 th set. Every one has lasted 50000 miles. then
run on the trailer another 10000 mi. Vic

Thanks Vic, that is a pretty good idea... The ones on my truck have 25,000 and I always take them off sooner than I need to. It is a 2wd dually and will get stuck in a wet fart... LOL

Bought some for mine from the local tire shop this winter. 235/80R16 trailer service tires $105 each plus mounting

My trailer came with Cooper's on it and I'm impressed with
the way they are hanging in there. Waring like iron. I have a
good bit of miles on them but they are mostly interstate
miles. It helps when your not turning all the time

Bob you are right and it is almost impossible to find a set of Radials that will come up to that. That is why I went to a Bias Samson. 14 Ply and I could actually get up to the 14,000# capacity of the trailer.

While I don't really use my trailers for a lot of hauling I do like to have good tires on them. It used to be easy. I four that are used for various purposes and until my last pickup purchase I had it made. Like others here I would use the take offs from my truck for my trailers. I have 15 inch rims on all of them. Now, my daily driver has 16 inch wheels. No more left over tires for free. Have you tried to find cheap 15 inch tires lately?

Oh well, Ebay and Craig's list have saved me a couple of times so far.

FYI

My tire jobber, that I trust, told me if you can wear a set of trailer tires out in 3 years, go radial. If not go bias ply. I went bias and they have been holding up for about 6 years, farm duty. Many long hauls too. Just a thought.
