Freight co.

basicly, you need to call a few good lines and ask them their rates, and lift gate friendly? or check on y/t hauling and post to see if any one is going that way and can haul safely, a litte cheaper.. my thoughts

Got a Fastenal Company in your area? They will ship between stores pretty reasonable. You have to be able to get it to their place and pick it up at the place on your end though.

Thanks for info R&L seems to be the best price here the guy with the engine may be able to do a little better on his end.

I live about 20 miles from R and L corporate office I would not have them hall anything for me and yes I know YRC owns roadway Holland and yellow I drove foe 25 years in LTL freight.

A few facts about LTL

You can call around and get quotes but sometimes it is better to go threw a broker like Unishippers; freightquote; or even Schneider. They get way better pricing from volume and can sometimes beat what the LTL carrier will quote you because of less mark up.

Things like lift gate; residential; farm; appointment needed; Inside garage; redelivery cause no one was home; weighing shipment; can all be mark up charges over and beyond the quote if you do not tell them up front. They will hold your freight hostage till all charges are paid. If you fall into any of the above you might be better off dropping off and picking up the engine at the trucking terminal.

Pack the engine well. Strap it tightly to a pallet or even build a crate for it. You are paying by the pound shipped so do not go over board but if you want it to arrive in one piece pack it well. To the driver and dock worker it is just another pallet. They could care less. And if it gets broken you will find out about the dark side of LTL. Claims are paid at XX per pound no matter what the replacement cost is. Right on the bill of lading you sign at pickup it will state that claim liability may be limited.

I have been retired for almost three years. I drove for 38 years for the same company. It was a small mom and pop union carrier( 60 drivers and dockmen at one time). We covered 4 states around Lake Michigan and were a LTL carrier.

No! I drove for LaPorte Transit Inc. out of LaPorte,Indiana. I started work with them in 1972 and retired in 2010. I miss driving and the customers but not those beat the clock hours.

I work for estes express lines and the best way is to go threw freight broker . com and they will find you the best freight charges. I can ship threw estes cheaper by going threw freight broker. com than getting a estes discount. estes also has lift gate services. hope this will help you in finding best freight rates.

ok I drove for Alvan out of Cincinnati until 2008 when they went out of business sure miss that job was a great company to work for I didn"t get back in to trucking but did buy a single axle to hall my tractors around. Nice talking to you.

We have several different lines that people have freight picked up here and it pays to check first. An example is a person in Vermont wanted two hubs weighing 90# each shipped Fed EX and the rate was $140.Another man needed just one hub and He was from Ohio and was a regular customer so we sent them to his account and they charged him $146 for one.The hauling schedule in the community box to the left can work well if you happen to find someone coming your way with extra room.

LTL freight rates are all about what lane you are using and what discount you get because no one pays full price. The better the customer the bigger the discount. Sometimes as much as 80%.

One example.
If we haul something from Memphis to New Orleans you will pay a preimum but the same thing going from New Orleans to Memphis could be hauled for next to nothing.
We have plenty of freight going south and pull only full trailers.
Going north we pull some emptys every day.

r&l will get you with a heavy residential charge they got me pick up and drop off of a set of alumin wheels from the maker. shipped from his farm and them retards said it was not a buisness and add 80. i will NEVER ship with them again
