anyone know how to turn up boost or give this motor a lil more get up and go.. motor has a garett turbo on it and dont seem to start spooling till 1800 rpms..i know these are all top end motors and it runs great.. but even under a load i aint getting any black smoke.. so im thinking its running lean..any thoughts

If you think it's running lean now the last thing you need is more boost that's going to make it even more lean.

Only way to turn up the fuel is to go a number or two up on injector size. Whats in it now 65's, 70's ?

You won't gain much turning up the boost, about all the turbo does on those motors is force feed the roots blower intake so they do not take so much power from the blower drive, more or less just makes the blower "float" inline between the blower and engine once the turbo spools up and takes over the cylinder scavenging job.

Got to understand that the roots blower is not a supercharger, it just causers a forced draft in the open intake ports and out the open exhaust valves. It blows the exaust out and pushes clean air in, but does not build any more cylinder pressure because both intake ports and exhaust valves are open at the same time.
The turbo only gains you about 30-50 hp, about what it takes to drive the scavenging blower.

its a maunaul motor.. not electric.. its in a 87 gmc brigg.. i dont belive it has a blower.. its a 6v-92t silver series.. the turbo sits right on top of the motor and looks to be aftermarket turbo.. im try to get rid of the muffler because i read were they will hold back hp..and it said the faster u get out the exaust with the less restriction the better it will run.. its got a big muffler under the truck.. its about half the leangth of the frame..any thoughts on that..

Are you just babying it when running it? All the turning up you can do still won't make it run if you are. Detroit's are a high strung engine there power band is in the 1700-2500 rpm range. OLD timers always said slam your hand in the door when you get in and then DRIVE IT LIKE YOUR GOING TO KILL IT. I rebuilt more than a few from guy's lugging the engine trying to save the engine and end up blowing it up. The first thing I would check is have the rack run by a old school Detroit man.

mabe thats what needs to be done is the rack adjusted.. cus im running her wide open petal to the metal.. anyoneknow of a good old detroit guy in kentucky.. im in central ky

You need to put in 92 injectors. Any 60 yr old truck mechanic will know how to do it. On your air box drains neck them down to 1/8. Will still drain but gain you some boost.

First check your fuel pressure. Then make sure you are getting full throttle at the governor. Then verify the governor is pulling the racks open all the way. Need to make sure the valves are adjusted correctly, the injectors are all the same and appropriately sized and heights set correctly. The. Make sure the racks are set correctly to actuate all injectors the same amount.
