V10 fords

gotta question, i"ve heard so many pros an cons about mileage, reliability an proformance of v-10 fords. thinking about getting a 450 auto with that combo. what do ya think? thanks

Other than some of them spitting out spark plugs, I've heard they are like the V10 Dodge- pass up anything but a gas station.

I had one, only sold it because the auto trans was going bad and I didn't want to spend the cash. I loved the truck. I also have a 02 powerstroke. The V10 only got about 2-3 mph less than the diesel. Had just as much power and I bought it for less than half what a diesel truck the same year would have cost. If it had been a 4 wheel drive, stick, I would still have it. It had over 200,000 on it and still ran perfect and used no oil. It was on it's second trans. I am going to sell my powerstroke, I bought a dodge to replace it. it's a cummins 6 speed, and I like it.

I go with Mike.The ones I know about are high mileage and havent heard anything about the engine but agree with the weak trans.You always heard of the dodge oil pump problem but not so here.The ones i drove didnt really seem to make any difference loaded or unloaded and know of some of the bucket trucks we ran they idled eight hrs aday and God only knows how many hours the motors really had

i had one a 06 f350 loved it. pull very good, loves gas.. about 6 loaded, bout 9 empty

I had a 99 ford V10. The motor was bulletproof. Tranney went out 3 days after i purchased it, $3,500 to replace it. No trouble after that. Lots of power and not bad mileage for a bigger gas engine. I got about 8 loaded and 10 - 12 just running around with it. I had trouble with balljoints going bad. I purchased the truck with 70,000 miles put them in right away and had to again at about 90,000 and sold the truck with 100,000.

How far you go per gallon will depend a lot on what gears are in it. I have an '01 F350 4x4 with the 5-speed and 3.73 gears. Up to 16 mpg highway, usually around 13 for 'normal' use (parts runs, pulling small trailer with 1 or 2 steers, hauling barn lime, etc.) Bought it 4 years ago with about 175,000 miles, just shy of 200,000 now. Lots of power, no oil use, but it did spit one spark plug a year and a half ago. Newer ones with the 3-valve heads are supposed to be better at keeping the plugs where they belong.
