Trailer floor

I just ordered a brand new trailer with a pressure
treated floor. Before i use the trailer is there
something i should treat the wood deck with to seal
it and make it last longer?

I put a good coat of used crank case oil on mine once a year, Do it on a sunny day so it will soak in. It Still looks good after 4 or 5 years.

several options, mostly it depends on how your going to use the trailer,ie; if the trailer is for your show tractor / car you will use it occasionally and you may want a nice floor, like the trailer below, if its a frequent user, you can either paint it with exterior paint with a roller, coat it with used crankcase oil , witch will last longer and protect better, as it soaks into the wood or even use one of the pickup bed liner products although this is expensive, and in my personal opinion, it makes for a slick trailer floor if its wet when your trying to load a vehicle or machine onto it

One of the best things I have found is a plastic tarp. One of the hardest things on a trailer and its tires is the hot sun itself. Ruins tires and paint and treated wood will last forever if covered most of the time. Then you don't have the stink and slipperiness of oil etc. Little rain/snow/sun once in a while while in use isn't going to hurt it . It is the constant sitting outside uncovered that takes it's toll.

boiled linseed oil.
Use it on my haywagons. - Does however tend to darken the wood greatly.

I have a ? for the guys that use the motor oil on the trailer? After you put it on say on a hot sunny day and it soaks in good, and you go to load a tractor and it is raining, will the bed be more slippery with the oiled wood then the non oiled wood. Thanks

I have not did a trailer floor yet but have did 3 farm wagons. Two of the three I used old motor oil and the third one I used 90wt gear oil. I have did all of mine on a day in the 90's with a lot of sun. After setting in hot sun for several days you can't see any oil. All it does is darken the wood. Mine set out and I have never had one get slippery when it gets wet. I plan on doing my new deckover next summer. And as far as for the smellof the oil I can put up with it when I know it adding years to the life of the floor of wagon or trailer.

I oiled our tri axel gooseneck floor with used motor oil for more than 20 yrs. When I sold it , the hard yellow pine floor was good as new . I oiled it when it was dry and on a warm day. Not a rotten or broken board.Tried to oil it 4 or 5 times a yr. The thinner the oil , the better it soaks in. The trailer never sat inside. clint
